How to write your invites and when you should send them | Nottingham & Lincolnshire natural wedding photographer

When should you send out your save the date?

Wedding invitations should be sent out at least eight weeks before your wedding date.

If you are getting them handmade; you will need to factor in the time it takes to get them created, the time it will take you to write all the addresses on and get them posted, and postal delays.

Don't leave it too late to get your wedding invites posted and for guests who need to travel to the wedding, we'd recommend even longer than eight weeks so they can book leave from work, accommodation, and travel to your day.

Work backward from your wedding date and get this in your wedding planning app or phone as a reminder. Did you send Save The Dates for your wedding or skip these and just go straight for the wedding invitations? I'm interested to see if this is a continuing trend.

What to write on your invite:

  • Host names - who is the wedding invitation from? Is it from you the couple, or traditionally from the couple’s parents?

  • A warm invitation sentence to your guests welcoming them.

  • The couple's names - who is getting married?

  • The date and time of the wedding.

  • The location of the ceremony (and reception if elsewhere!)

  • A separate RSVP card, or instructions for a digital RSVP.

On the back of the invite, you can write:

  • Any information that you think they may need: Like the menu - or ask guests for their music preferences.

  • Instruct guests about parking at the venue.

  • Accommodation nearby for guests arriving from a distance.

  • Add the gift registry information if you have one.

  • Tell them if there is a dress code.

Quick tips:

  • Be clear about who you are inviting and if you are including children or plus ones.

  • Get someone to proofread your invite to check for spelling and grammar mistakes.

  • Write the time 15 minutes earlier than expected to account for traffic delays.

  • You can get free designs from CANVA.

Sealing your envelopes:

Whether you lick, brush, glue, or tape your wedding invitations - there's a lot to go through. Here's another little handy tip..... once the envelopes are sealed, place them under something heavy whilst they dry.

-This will reduce any wrinkles across your envelope and ensure those flaps are stuck down, ensuring that the first impression of your wedding that your guests receive is as perfect as you and your stationer envisioned.

Remember

Ordering everything from one stationer can save you money and make the invitation process easier for you. So, start looking for wedding stationers that match your vision with plenty of time to go before the wedding.

-If you have a stationer be sure to ask about printing timeframes to ensure you leave yourself plenty of time to get them out to your guests.

I hope that these tips help you.
