Planning your wedding food - Talking catering and cakes; inspiring couples to plan their dream wedding day! | Nottingham & Lincolnshire natural wedding photographer

Food is a big talking point at weddings and an essential: Because we have to eat right - Here are our best tips on nailing your catering and food for your wedding day….

Change it up!

Do you like cake? Will it get eaten by your guests? You can go against traditions and choose to have another choice, you could have a sweet treats table, a doughnut tower or wall, or stacked brownies and cookies! The choice is yours and it could be a cheaper alternative.

3 tips on getting the menu right:

Choosing the food for your wedding is important (although it has all of the ingredients to be a stressful one) Balancing dietary requirements, sticking to budgets, and reflecting the tone of your event are all things you'll want to consider when choosing your menu.

1) Choose your caterers early on in the process -

Venues usually either have an in-house team or a list of suppliers they have worked with in the past you can utilize. If you are hiring a marquee, make sure catering is next on your list to book. Your catering is going to take up a large chunk of the budget, so book early so you can then decide on other things.

2) Give your caterers as much information as possible -

Because communication is key! From day one give an accurate representation of how many people will attend for the day and evening, whether you are feeding any of your suppliers, what drinks do you plan on serving, how many children need catering for, and whether anyone has special dietary requirements.

3)Be bold!

Make choices that you both love as a couple and don't be afraid to have something different. It'll make a good talking point for the day and beyond.

Don’t forget about you!

Whether you have outside caterers or have your venue provide the food at your wedding reception. Most couples find that between welcoming and mingling with your evening guests, any evening photographs, cake cutting, and the first dance tradition there's sometimes just no time to eat any of your lovely reception food.

Ask the wedding catering staff or a bridesmaid and groomsman to plate some food up for you and pop it in your room for a midnight feast or put it to one side for you to have when you find a moment.

Trust me, you'll thank me later!

Keep the food coming!

Other than how fabulous the happy couple looks; food is one of the main things your guests will remember from your wedding day.

If your friends and family are foodies, consider bringing out some snacks and nibbles at supper time. This will keep the mood high and the dancing going into the early hours 😉

Don’t forget to bring out nibbles during the time before the wedding party and the stop gap time of after the ceremony, group photos, meal and speeches, when the couple has couple portraits done and outfit change time.

Who doesn't love a dessert and menu tasting? I know I do!

It's a great way to share something a bit special with your loved ones and also makes them feel like they are a bit more included in your wedding planning process.

We'd recommend double-checking with your venue to make sure it's okay to bring guests along as there may be a fee, but from experience, normally there's plenty of food to go around.

I hope that these tips help you.
