Having a sensory-friendly wedding for neurodiverse people | Nottingham & Lincolnshire natural wedding photographer

Will there be neurodiverse people at your wedding? Here at Victoria Louise Wedding Photographer, I love to help couples navigate through the world of wedding planning, so here are 3 incredibly packed full-filed tips to help inspire your wedding planning for the perfect wedding day!

1: Create a sensory relaxing time-out space.

This could be a large tablecloth over a table, with fidget toys and cushions in the quietest area of your venue if you're on a budget. Or you can hire a company for a sensory space and have it in another room away from the party to allow guests to have a chill space away from all the stimulation. Make sure this space is just for the neurodiverse people, it is not to be shared, without permission from the neurodiverse person, because it will be their safe space.

2: Provide earplugs, or ear defenders on a little table next to the dance floor with sensory relaxing toys.

Loud noise can be overwhelming for neurodiverse people. You could also ask the DJ not to use strobe lighting, which can affect neurodiverse people and epileptics. Choosing suppliers who are experienced with neurodiversity and letting them know, can also help make everything run smoothly.

3: Every person is unique, so do ask your guests what they think would make them feel comfortable, by preparing with a pre-wedding meeting. Doing anything out of routine and the unknown can cause much anxiety, having a walk through the venue for them to see where they will be and help them prepare in advance may be able to help them. Remember to be flexible, Neurodiverse people may have a meltdown (yes adults too!) And may not be able to wear the dress code due to sensory issues.

I hope these tips help you in your wedding planning.
