5 questions to ask your Portrait photographer | Choosing a photographer for your family | Gainsborough family portrait photography studio

Wanting to have professional photos of your Newborn, your family or Wedding? what are some questions or things you might want to consider asking?

Firstly check your photographer has an FAQ page on their website or welcome booklet (Frequently asked questions) If not here are some questions you need to ask your photographer……..

1- What are the exact copyright and terms and conditions of the photographs?

For example, are they giving you the whole rights or are they allowing you private use of the photographs and unlimited printing within the home?

2- What is your personality like?

You have to like them and be able to trust them with your children if you are having a family shoot. Is it possible for you can meet beforehand to have a chat and see if they are the right photographer for your family?

3- Are all the photographs in your portfolio representation of what we will receive from our photoshoot?

Photographers only showcase their very best work on their profiles, although some are far too busy to update them and their style may have changed or artistry may have developed. Are you likely going to get the same sort of images to what’s displayed on their portfolio? After all, you are booking them on the basis that you like their work, so are you able to see a whole gallery to see the quality of the photographs? This is important, be clear that you are able to determine if they are the right photographer for you.

4- What sort of studio have you got?

Some photographers work from their home, so knowing where your going will help everything run smoothly and avoid the disappointment of not arriving at a shop or factory studio if that’s what you were after.  “Home studios” indicate that the photographer has a space in their home dedicated to their photography.

5- Why are you a Photographer?

This may sound like a strange question, but getting to know your photographer and seeing if they are passionate about their work will help you understand your photographer and you will really have a great session. How do they distinguish themselves against other photographers? Are they the right photographer for you?

Bonus question: Will you be editing all the images?

Some photographers only choose their favorite to edit so you may be left with a disk or unedited photographs that don’t quite look the same or as good at the edited images.

Tips:

·         Check if your photographer has done special training with posing newborns and Newborn safety if you are having your Newborn photographed. After all safety and experience is vital for Newborn photography. Do you do Composites for difficult poses? It’s important that your photographer is efficient in photo retouching for the safety of your baby and not to force a pose that could hurt your baby as the Froggy pose or hammock poses.

·         Are you insured? If they are not, are they a legitimate business?

·         Do you have back up equipment? What if the fuse blows in the lamp? do they have the ability to photograph in natural light or will or shoot end there?

·         Can you see the full price list? You need to know exactly what you are getting into.

I hope this helps you understand photography and prepare you for your photoshoot.

Love and light, Victoria.
